Take a Bonsai Pill

I’m sitting at a Starbucks in Portland on my 3rd day of Michael Hagedorn’s seasonal.  I have about an hour to spare before our session starts.   At another table 5 seniors (2 ladies and 3 gentlemen) were discussing the hottest topic in America, the presidential election.  I was minding my own business when one of the gentleman got up to leave and gave his parting words ….”calm down everything is going to be awful”.   I looked up and smiled and the other gentleman saw me and he pointed at me as he said loudly  “he heard that”.  Their whole table cracked laughing.  I laughed with them.  It was a great release from what I have been feeling the whole week.   I was feeling somewhat ambivalent and sad about our political situation.  Pray to God that it will eventually have a happy ending but meanwhile what can I do personally.   I’m actually very fortunate to have scheduled (unintentionally) a seasonal with Michael Hagedorn to coincide after the election.  It helped me take my mind off the situation. Even then, our group discussed the political situation non the less.  I sense a great disappointment from Michael and I’m  totally with him.

However, being surrounded with great bonsai from Michael’s garden is definitely a very calming feeling.  Michael’s trees transports me to a different place.  Just like taking a bonsai pill.  Here are some photos:
