Wind Swept from a Hedge

In the last two weeks, we’ve had some very windy weather here in the Pacific Northwest.  In fact, it sadly killed one person from a fallen tree. I was reminded about the power of a tree, they are beautiful, they can provide shelter and shade, their fruits can provide sustenance and life, but at the same time it can also take life.

I was also reminded of the bonsai tree (Japanese Holly)I styled this fall for the first time.  It was another hedge shrub I collected from a project we did.  I potted it last year in a better soil.  The decision to create a wind swept style for this tree was very natural since the braches are already leaning one way.  It will be repotted in a shallower pot, most likely a rectangular.  The tree will be potted to emphasize the movement of the  tree.

My little trees are my daily reminders of our grand connection to this beautiful and mysterious universe.
